Hope Toasts

These ‘toasts’ are a way for you and your guests to say words of blessing to one another, and to celebrate the good things that have come to us with Jesus’ birth. Here are toasts based on portions of the bible. You are also welcome to adapt them and make your own! Please use whichever are most appropriate for you and your guests.

Luke 2:8-20 - A toast to Jesus’ Advent

Jesus, we toast to Your birthday today. How amazing it is that You, the Creator of the universe, would descend into such a small thing like a baby and become like us. So that we would not need to live in darkness anymore. May our hearts be moved and filled with awe at Your grace and mercy.

Revelations 21:3-4 - A toast to our Future with Christ

Jesus, we are so glad to be your people, and we toast to better days that are surely coming when You will be with us, and make things right once and for all. May we be encouraged and strengthened to press on in this life You have called us to.

James 1:17 - A toast to God’s Faithfulness

God, as yet another year ends, we toast to Your unchanging nature. In this world, there are many lies, half-truths, and fake news, but You are true and faithful. Thank you that we can put our trust in You.

John 16:33 - A toast to Jesus’ Victory

Jesus, through your birth, life, death and resurrection, You have overcome the world. We toast to Your victory. You show us that there is nothing in our present situation that is out of Your control. You are greater, more powerful, and more lasting than all the bad and horrible things we see in our own lives and in the world around us.

John 1:9-10, Romans 8:35-39 - In Dark Times

_____________, even though it may seem very dark around you, Jesus the great light has not abandoned you. I hope that peace and joy will fill you, knowing that Jesus loves you and nothing can separate you from Him. May you find comfort, direction and hope to face what lies ahead as you turn to Jesus who gives light to everyone.

Toasts for One Another

Acts 17:27 - In Times of Isolation

This is a toast to ______________. I know you might feel alone and isolated sometimes amidst all that has been happening. May you be comforted to know that you are never alone and that God is with you. May you discover that He is never far away and that He loves and cares for you deeply. So do I.

James 1:17 - Good Things

Today, I want to make a toast to ___________, for all the good gifts God has given you. And may you remember and treasure always His most precious Christmas gift to you, His son, Jesus. I also toast to good things to come in your life, in small and big ways, that will fill you with joy and gratitude for your Heavenly Father. May they show you the depth of God’s goodness and His great love for you.

3 John 1-4 - Health

This is a toast to _____________. May you be healthy in body and strong in spirit, as you walk with Jesus, the great Healer. I pray that He will protect your body against sickness, and continue to give you insight into any areas of spiritual sickness that need His healing touch.

Psalm 20:7 - Peace & Security

This is a toast to ______________. I know it is very tempting to only trust things that we can see and touch, rather than an invisible God. But I hope that God will give you eyes of faith to see how trustworthy He is, and that He is the only real source of peace and security. I hope that you always answer His call to trust Him with everything.

Matt 11:28-30 - Rest & Assurance

Dearest ___________, I make a toast to your Shalom - which is a true and complete rest! I hope that in the coming year, which may be very busy, you will experience rest - not just in the form of holidays or days off, but true rest that comes from trusting that God is in control of everything in your life. May you experience the assurance that comes from knowing and trusting Jesus who is all powerful, infinitely trustworthy and loves you more than you can imagine.

Isaiah 9:6 - Wisdom & Guidance

I would like to speak words of blessing over you, ____________. In the year ahead, may you live a life of inner strength and courage. Jesus was born as a human baby so that we can know that God understands us and yet He is God and fully able to rescue and help us. May you experience the comfort and deep security that comes from knowing that God is truly “with you” in all circumstances.

2 Corinthians 12:7-9 - In Times of Trial

I want to make a toast to ____________. I know that God has and is watching over you in your difficulty. Satan wants to use this trial to tear down your faith, but I know God is using it to build your faith instead. ____________, I hope that God will remove this pain from you, because He can. And even if He doesn’t, I hope that God will give you the grace and power to endure it.

Romans 8:28 - In Tough Times

This is a toast to ______________. I know that things have been tough for you, and you may be asking God why things are the way they are. I hope that you will be comforted and assured knowing that God has a plan for the good of those who love Him. May you discover joy in growing to become more like Jesus through these difficult times.
